Ingredients
- all-purpose flour - 250 grams
- active dry yeast - 7 grams
- granulated sugar - 30 grams
- milk - 120 ml
- unsalted butter - 40 grams
- large egg - 1
- salt - 5 grams
- poppy seeds - 50 grams
- honey - 30 grams
- water - 60 ml
Steps
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk until warm (about 37°C) and add the active dry yeast and 10 grams of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, melted butter (slightly cooled), and the egg.
- Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- While the dough rises, prepare the filling by mixing poppy seeds, honey, and water in a small bowl until well combined.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle (about 30x20 cm). Spread the poppy seed filling evenly over the dough.
- Roll the dough tightly from the long side to create a log. Pinch the edges to seal, then place the roll seam side down on a lined baking tray.
- Cover with a cloth and let it rise for another 20-30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the roll for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow it to cool slightly before slicing and serve warm.
