Ingredients
- all-purpose flour - 250 grams
- active dry yeast - 7 grams
- warm water (about 110°F/43°C) - 150 ml
- honey - 10 grams
- salt - 5 grams
- poppy seeds - 30 grams
- olive oil - 15 ml
Steps
- In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast and honey in warm water. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture.
- Mix the ingredients together until a dough forms. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F). Bring a large pot of water to a gentle boil and add a tablespoon of honey.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a bagel by rolling it into a ball and then poking a hole in the center with your finger to form a ring.
- Carefully drop each bagel into the boiling water for about 1 minute on each side, then remove and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the tops of the bagels with olive oil and sprinkle generously with poppy seeds.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
