Ingredients
- all-purpose flour - 250 grams
- warm water - 150 ml
- active dry yeast - 7 grams
- sugar - 10 grams
- salt - 5 grams
- poppy seeds - 30 grams
- honey - 15 grams
Steps
- In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast and sugar in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt.
- Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture and stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces.
- Shape each piece into a bagel by rolling it into a ball and then poking a hole through the center with your finger, stretching it gently to form a ring.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the honey. Drop bagels in batches into the boiling water for about 30 seconds on each side.
- Remove the bagels using a slotted spoon, place them on the prepared baking sheet, and sprinkle with poppy seeds.
- Bake the bagels for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Let them cool slightly before serving.
