Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 200 grams
  • Popcorn kernels - 1/2 cup (about 120 grams)
  • All-purpose flour - 1/4 cup (30 grams)
  • Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons (16 grams)
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon (3 grams)
  • Onion powder - 1 teaspoon (3 grams)
  • Paprika - 1/2 teaspoon (1 gram)
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon (3 grams)
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon (1 gram)
  • Water - 1/4 cup (60 ml)
  • Vegetable oil - for frying

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut into bite-sized cubes.
  2. Pop the popcorn kernels in a popcorn maker or on the stovetop, then set aside.
  3. In a bowl, mix the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Add water to the dry mixture to create a batter, then dip each tofu cube into the batter, ensuring it's well-coated.
  5. Crush the popped popcorn into smaller pieces and place them in a shallow dish.
  6. Roll each battered tofu cube in the crushed popcorn until fully coated.
  7. In a skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat and add the popcorn-coated tofu cubes.
  8. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Remove from the skillet and place on a paper towel to absorb excess oil, then serve warm.
