Ingredients

  • Lean ground beef - 300 grams
  • Whole wheat burger buns - 2
  • Green bell pepper - 1 medium, sliced
  • Onion - 1 medium, sliced
  • Mushrooms - 100 grams, sliced
  • Low-fat provolone cheese - 2 slices
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Fresh parsley - 1 tablespoon, chopped (for garnish)

Steps

  1. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat and add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.
  2. Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until all vegetables are tender. Season with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. While the vegetables are cooking, form the ground beef into two equal patties and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  4. In a separate skillet, cook the burger patties over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired doneness.
  5. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of provolone cheese on each patty and cover the skillet to melt the cheese.
  6. Toast the whole wheat burger buns lightly in the oven or on a skillet.
  7. Assemble the burgers by placing the cheese-topped patties on the bottom halves of the buns, followed by the sautéed vegetables. Top with the other half of the bun.
  8. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately.
