Ingredients
- Lean ground beef - 300 grams
- Whole wheat burger buns - 2
- Green bell pepper - 1 medium, sliced
- Onion - 1 medium, sliced
- Mushrooms - 100 grams, sliced
- Low-fat provolone cheese - 2 slices
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Fresh parsley - 1 tablespoon, chopped (for garnish)
Steps
- In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat and add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.
- Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until all vegetables are tender. Season with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- While the vegetables are cooking, form the ground beef into two equal patties and season both sides with salt and pepper.
- In a separate skillet, cook the burger patties over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired doneness.
- During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of provolone cheese on each patty and cover the skillet to melt the cheese.
- Toast the whole wheat burger buns lightly in the oven or on a skillet.
- Assemble the burgers by placing the cheese-topped patties on the bottom halves of the buns, followed by the sautéed vegetables. Top with the other half of the bun.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately.
