Ingredients

  • Pasta (spaghetti or penne) - 200 grams
  • Canned tuna (in olive oil or water) - 1 can (about 150 grams drained)
  • Cherry tomatoes - 200 grams, halved
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Fresh basil leaves - 10 grams, chopped
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Red pepper flakes - 1/4 teaspoon (optional)
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente.
  2. While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  3. Add the halved cherry tomatoes to the skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes until they start to soften and release their juices.
  4. Drain the canned tuna and add it to the skillet with the tomatoes. Stir gently to combine and heat through for another 2-3 minutes.
  5. Once the pasta is cooked, reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta and add it directly to the skillet with the tuna and tomato mixture.
  6. Toss everything together, adding reserved pasta water as needed to create a light sauce. Season with salt, pepper, red pepper flakes (if using), and lemon juice.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped fresh basil. Serve immediately, garnished with additional basil if desired.
