Ingredients

  • Pasta (fusilli or penne) - 200 grams
  • Canned tuna in olive oil - 1 can (approximately 150 grams, drained)
  • Frozen peas - 100 grams
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1 small, diced
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Red pepper flakes (optional) - 1/4 teaspoon

Steps

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, then add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  4. Stir in the frozen peas and cook for about 2-3 minutes until they are heated through.
  5. Add the drained tuna to the skillet, breaking it up gently with a fork. Stir to combine with the onions and peas.
  6. Once the pasta is cooked, reserve 1/2 cup of the pasta cooking water, then drain the pasta and add it directly to the skillet with the tuna and peas.
  7. Pour in the lemon juice, and if the mixture seems dry, add a bit of the reserved pasta water to reach the desired consistency.
  8. Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Toss everything together until well combined.
  9. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped parsley before serving.
