Ingredients

  • Pasta (penne or rotini) - 150 grams
  • Broccoli florets - 200 grams
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Red pepper flakes - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Parmesan cheese - 30 grams, grated
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  2. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente.
  3. In the last 3 minutes of cooking the pasta, add the broccoli florets to the pot.
  4. While the pasta and broccoli are cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  5. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes to the skillet, sautéing for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  6. Once the pasta and broccoli are cooked, drain them and reserve a cup of pasta water.
  7. Add the drained pasta and broccoli to the skillet with the garlic oil, tossing to combine.
  8. If the mixture seems dry, add reserved pasta water a little at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  9. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper to taste.
  10. Serve immediately, garnished with additional Parmesan if desired.
