Ingredients

  • 2 large yellow onions
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 cup cold sparkling water
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Steps

  1. Peel and slice the onions into 1/2-inch thick rings, separating the rings from each other.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  3. Gradually whisk in the cold sparkling water until a smooth batter forms.
  4. Place the breadcrumbs in a separate shallow dish.
  5. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).
  6. Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, then coat with breadcrumbs.
  7. Carefully place the coated onion rings in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  8. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Remove the onion rings with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  10. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
