  • Garlic (minced) - 1 clove
  • Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • Fresh mozzarella cheese (sliced) - 125 grams
  • Fresh basil leaves - a handful
  • Red pepper flakes (optional) - to taste

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, honey, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix until a dough forms, then knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 250°C (482°F) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.
  6. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine crushed tomatoes, minced garlic, and oregano. Simmer for 5-10 minutes, then remove from heat.
  7. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a 12-inch circle.
