Ingredients

  • Ground beef - 300 grams
  • Breadcrumbs - 50 grams
  • Egg - 1 large
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Worcestershire sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Ketchup - 2 tablespoons, plus extra for serving
  • Dijon mustard - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Mixed herbs (oregano, thyme) - 1 teaspoon
  • Whole grain bread - 4 slices
  • Lettuce - 2 leaves
  • Tomato - 1 medium, sliced
  • Cheddar cheese - 2 slices

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, Dijon mustard, salt, black pepper, and mixed herbs. Mix until well combined.
  3. Transfer the meat mixture to a loaf pan and shape it into a loaf. Spread a thin layer of ketchup on top.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 70°C (160°F).
  5. Once cooked, remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
  6. While the meatloaf is resting, toast the whole grain bread slices in a toaster or on a skillet.
  7. To assemble the sandwich, place a slice of meatloaf on the toasted bread, add a slice of cheddar cheese, a leaf of lettuce, and a slice of tomato. Top with another slice of toasted bread.
  8. Serve with extra ketchup on the side.
