- Ground beef - 300 grams
- Breadcrumbs - 50 grams
- Egg - 1 large
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Worcestershire sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Ketchup - 2 tablespoons, plus extra for serving
- Dijon mustard - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Mixed herbs (oregano, thyme) - 1 teaspoon
- Whole grain bread - 4 slices
- Lettuce - 2 leaves
- Tomato - 1 medium, sliced
- Cheddar cheese - 2 slices
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, Dijon mustard, salt, black pepper, and mixed herbs. Mix until well combined.
- Transfer the meat mixture to a loaf pan and shape it into a loaf. Spread a thin layer of ketchup on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 70°C (160°F).
- Once cooked, remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
- While the meatloaf is resting, toast the whole grain bread slices in a toaster or on a skillet.
- To assemble the sandwich, place a slice of meatloaf on the toasted bread, add a slice of cheddar cheese, a leaf of lettuce, and a slice of tomato. Top with another slice of toasted bread.
- Serve with extra ketchup on the side.
