Ingredients
- Matzah sheets - 4 sheets
- Ricotta cheese - 250 grams
- Mozzarella cheese, shredded - 150 grams
- Parmesan cheese, grated - 50 grams
- Marinara sauce - 1 cup (240 ml)
- Egg - 1 large
- Fresh basil, chopped - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and half of the chopped basil. Mix until smooth.
- In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom.
- Layer 2 matzah sheets over the sauce, breaking them if necessary to fit the dish.
- Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the matzah, followed by a layer of marinara sauce and a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat the layering process with 2 more matzah sheets, the remaining ricotta mixture, marinara sauce, and mozzarella cheese.
- Top with the last 2 sheets of matzah, cover with the remaining marinara sauce, and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and the rest of the mozzarella.
- Drizzle olive oil over the top and cover the dish with aluminum foil.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serve topped with remaining fresh basil.
