Ingredients

  • Lamb shoulder - 300 grams
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Pita bread - 2 pieces
  • Tomato - 1 medium, diced
  • Cucumber - 1 small, diced
  • Red onion - 1/2, thinly sliced
  • Greek yogurt - 100 grams
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped

Steps

  1. In a bowl, mix olive oil, minced garlic, oregano, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper to create a marinade.
  2. Cut the lamb shoulder into thin strips and add it to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
  3. While the lamb marinates, prepare the tzatziki sauce by mixing Greek yogurt, lemon juice, and chopped parsley in a small bowl. Season with salt to taste.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated lamb strips and cook for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are browned and cooked through.
  5. Warm the pita bread in a dry skillet or microwave for a few seconds until pliable.
  6. Assemble the gyros by placing the cooked lamb on the pita bread, then topping with diced tomato, cucumber, red onion, and a generous dollop of tzatziki sauce.
  7. Fold the pita over the filling and serve immediately.
