- active dry yeast - 5 grams
- milk - 100 ml, warm
- unsalted butter - 50 grams, melted
- large eggs - 1
- salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- raisins - 30 grams
- sliced almonds - 30 grams
- powdered sugar - for dusting
Steps
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the frothy yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
- Mix until a dough forms, then knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Fold in the raisins and sliced almonds, then shape the dough into a ball.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a kugelhopf or bundt pan.
- After the dough has risen, punch it down gently and transfer it to the prepared pan, smoothing the top.
- Let the dough rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool slightly in the pan before transferring to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
