Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour - 200 grams
  • granulated sugar - 50 grams
  • active dry yeast - 5 grams
  • milk - 100 ml, warm
  • unsalted butter - 50 grams, melted
  • large eggs - 1
  • salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • raisins - 30 grams
  • sliced almonds - 30 grams
  • powdered sugar - for dusting

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the frothy yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  4. Mix until a dough forms, then knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Fold in the raisins and sliced almonds, then shape the dough into a ball.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  7. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a kugelhopf or bundt pan.
  8. After the dough has risen, punch it down gently and transfer it to the prepared pan, smoothing the top.
  9. Let the dough rise again for about 30 minutes.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  11. Allow to cool slightly in the pan before transferring to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
