Ingredients

  • Pork shoulder - 500 grams
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sugar-free barbecue sauce - 100 grams
  • Apple cider vinegar - 2 tablespoons
  • Water - 250 ml

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 150°C (300°F).
  2. In a small bowl, mix together garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it's evenly coated.
  4. In a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium-high heat and sear the pork shoulder on all sides until browned.
  5. Remove the pork from the pot and set aside. Add water, apple cider vinegar, and 50 grams of sugar-free barbecue sauce to the pot, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.
  6. Return the pork shoulder to the pot, cover with a lid, and place it in the preheated oven.
  7. Cook for 4 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily shredded with a fork.
  8. Once cooked, remove the pork from the pot and let it rest for a few minutes before shredding it with two forks.
  9. Mix the shredded pork with the remaining 50 grams of sugar-free barbecue sauce and serve warm.
