Ingredients

  • phyllo dough - 4 sheets
  • unsalted butter - 50 grams, melted
  • pistachios - 100 grams, finely chopped
  • brown sugar - 30 grams
  • cinnamon powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • honey - 60 ml
  • water - 60 ml
  • vanilla extract - 1/2 teaspoon
  • salt - a pinch

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a bowl, mix the finely chopped pistachios, brown sugar, cinnamon powder, and a pinch of salt.
  3. Lay one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it with melted butter. Repeat this process with two more sheets, stacking them.
  4. Sprinkle a portion of the pistachio mixture over the layered phyllo dough.
  5. Add another layer of phyllo dough (2 sheets, buttering each), followed by more pistachio filling. Repeat until all filling is used, finishing with a top layer of 2-3 phyllo sheets.
  6. Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes with a sharp knife.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. While the baklava is baking, prepare the honey syrup by combining honey, water, and vanilla extract in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the mixture is well combined and bring to a simmer. Remove from heat and set aside.
  9. Once the baklava is baked, pour the honey syrup evenly over it while it's still hot. Allow it to cool completely before serving.
