Ingredients

  • Ziti pasta - 200 grams
  • Halal ground beef - 150 grams
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
  • Onion, diced - 1 small
  • Canned crushed tomatoes - 400 grams
  • Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
  • Italian seasoning - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Red pepper flakes - 1/4 teaspoon (optional)
  • Mozzarella cheese, shredded - 100 grams
  • Parmesan cheese, grated - 30 grams
  • Fresh basil leaves, chopped - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F).
  2. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent.
  4. Add the Halal ground beef to the skillet, cooking until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  5. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.
  6. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked ziti with the meat sauce and half of the mozzarella cheese. Mix well to combine.
  7. Transfer the ziti mixture into a baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan on top.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh basil before serving.
