- Canned crushed tomatoes - 400 grams
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Italian seasoning - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Red pepper flakes - 1/4 teaspoon (optional)
- Mozzarella cheese, shredded - 100 grams
- Parmesan cheese, grated - 30 grams
- Fresh basil leaves, chopped - 2 tablespoons
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F).
- In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent.
- Add the Halal ground beef to the skillet, cooking until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked ziti with the meat sauce and half of the mozzarella cheese. Mix well to combine.
- Transfer the ziti mixture into a baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh basil before serving.
