Ingredients

  • cabbage - 1 medium head
  • ground halal beef - 250 grams
  • uncooked rice - 50 grams
  • onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • tomato sauce - 400 grams
  • dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • salt - 1 teaspoon
  • pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • ground cumin - 1/2 teaspoon
  • olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped

Steps

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage head and blanch the whole cabbage in boiling water for about 5 minutes until the outer leaves are tender. Remove and let cool.
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until translucent (about 5 minutes).
  3. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, uncooked rice, sautéed onions and garlic, oregano, salt, pepper, and cumin. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
  4. Once the cabbage is cool enough to handle, gently peel off 8-10 leaves. Place 2-3 tablespoons of the meat mixture onto each leaf, fold in the sides, and roll tightly.
  5. In a large pot, spread a thin layer of tomato sauce on the bottom. Place the stuffed cabbage rolls seam-side down in the pot. Pour the remaining tomato sauce over the rolls.
  6. Cover the pot and simmer on low heat for about 45-60 minutes, until the meat and rice are cooked through.
  7. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.
