Ingredients
- cabbage - 1 medium head
- ground halal beef - 250 grams
- uncooked rice - 50 grams
- onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- tomato sauce - 400 grams
- dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
- salt - 1 teaspoon
- pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- ground cumin - 1/2 teaspoon
- olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
Steps
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage head and blanch the whole cabbage in boiling water for about 5 minutes until the outer leaves are tender. Remove and let cool.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until translucent (about 5 minutes).
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, uncooked rice, sautéed onions and garlic, oregano, salt, pepper, and cumin. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
- Once the cabbage is cool enough to handle, gently peel off 8-10 leaves. Place 2-3 tablespoons of the meat mixture onto each leaf, fold in the sides, and roll tightly.
- In a large pot, spread a thin layer of tomato sauce on the bottom. Place the stuffed cabbage rolls seam-side down in the pot. Pour the remaining tomato sauce over the rolls.
- Cover the pot and simmer on low heat for about 45-60 minutes, until the meat and rice are cooked through.
- Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.
