  • brioche or French baguette - 2 pieces
  • all-purpose flour - 100 grams
  • cornmeal - 50 grams
  • egg - 1 large
  • buttermilk - 125 ml
  • paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • onion powder - 1 teaspoon
  • cayenne pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • salt - 1 teaspoon
  • black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • canola oil (for frying) - 250 ml
  • shredded lettuce - 100 grams
  • tomato (sliced) - 1 medium
  • pickles (sliced) - 50 grams
  • mayonnaise - 100 grams
  • Dijon mustard - 1 tablespoon
  • lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • hot sauce - to taste

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine buttermilk, egg, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper to create a marinade.
  2. Add the shrimp to the marinade and let it sit for 15 minutes.
  3. In a shallow dish, mix flour and cornmeal for the breading.
  4. Heat canola oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat.
  5. Remove shrimp from the marinade, letting excess drip off, and coat each shrimp in the flour-cornmeal mixture.
  6. Fry shrimp in batches for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  7. In a separate bowl, mix mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, and hot sauce to create the remoulade.
  8. Slice the baguettes in half and lightly toast them if desired.
  9. Spread a generous amount of remoulade on the inside of each baguette.
  10. Layer the fried shrimp, shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and pickles inside the baguette. Close and serve immediately.
