Ingredients
- Ground halal lamb or beef - 300 grams
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Carrot - 1 medium, diced
- Frozen peas - 100 grams
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Worcestershire sauce (halal) - 1 tablespoon
- Beef or vegetable broth - 200 ml
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Mashed potatoes - 400 grams (prepared)
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Dried thyme - 1/2 teaspoon
- Dried rosemary - 1/2 teaspoon
- Butter - 20 grams (for mashed potatoes)
- Milk - 50 ml (for mashed potatoes)
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and diced carrot, cooking until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and ground lamb or beef to the skillet. Cook until the meat is browned, breaking it up with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2 minutes.
- Pour in the broth and add the frozen peas. Stir well and let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes until slightly thickened.
- While the meat mixture simmers, prepare the mashed potatoes by mixing the prepared potatoes with butter and milk until creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- In a baking dish, spread the meat mixture evenly at the bottom. Top it with an even layer of mashed potatoes, smoothing it out with a spatula.
- Use a fork to create texture on the surface of the mashed potatoes for a crispy topping.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
