Ingredients

  • Ground halal lamb or beef - 300 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Carrot - 1 medium, diced
  • Frozen peas - 100 grams
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
  • Worcestershire sauce (halal) - 1 tablespoon
  • Beef or vegetable broth - 200 ml
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Mashed potatoes - 400 grams (prepared)
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Dried thyme - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Dried rosemary - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Butter - 20 grams (for mashed potatoes)
  • Milk - 50 ml (for mashed potatoes)

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and diced carrot, cooking until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic and ground lamb or beef to the skillet. Cook until the meat is browned, breaking it up with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2 minutes.
  5. Pour in the broth and add the frozen peas. Stir well and let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes until slightly thickened.
  6. While the meat mixture simmers, prepare the mashed potatoes by mixing the prepared potatoes with butter and milk until creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. In a baking dish, spread the meat mixture evenly at the bottom. Top it with an even layer of mashed potatoes, smoothing it out with a spatula.
  8. Use a fork to create texture on the surface of the mashed potatoes for a crispy topping.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and crispy.
  10. Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
