- Heavy cream - 200 ml
- Cheddar cheese - 100 grams, grated
- Parmesan cheese - 50 grams, grated
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Butter - 20 grams
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Thyme - 1 teaspoon, dried
- Nutmeg - a pinch
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Peel the potatoes and slice them thinly (about 2-3 mm thick) using a mandoline or a sharp knife.
- In a saucepan, heat the olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Pour in the heavy cream, then add salt, black pepper, thyme, and nutmeg. Stir well and bring to a gentle simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes.
- Sprinkle half of the grated cheddar and parmesan cheese over the cream mixture.
- Add the remaining potato slices on top, followed by the remaining cream mixture and the rest of the cheese.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
