Ingredients
- Chicken breast - 2 pieces (about 200g each)
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Garlic powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 1/2 cup (60g)
- Egg - 1 large, beaten
- Breadcrumbs - 1 cup (100g)
- Parmesan cheese - 1/4 cup (25g), grated
- Olive oil - 1/4 cup (60ml)
- Marinara sauce - 1 cup (240ml)
- Mozzarella cheese - 1/2 cup (60g), shredded
- Fresh basil - for garnish (optional)
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Season the chicken breasts with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder on both sides.
- Set up a breading station: Place the flour in one shallow dish, the beaten egg in another, and mix the breadcrumbs with grated Parmesan cheese in a third dish.
- Dredge each chicken breast first in flour, then dip in the beaten egg, and finally coat with the breadcrumb and Parmesan mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the breaded chicken and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
- Transfer the chicken to a baking dish. Spoon marinara sauce over each piece, then sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a couple of minutes. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
