Ingredients

  • Halal chicken breast - 2 pieces (about 300g total)
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • All-purpose flour - 1/2 cup
  • Egg - 1 large, beaten
  • Panko breadcrumbs - 1 cup
  • Vegetable oil - 1/2 cup (for frying)
  • Katsu sauce - 1/4 cup
  • Shredded cabbage - 1 cup (for serving)
  • Lemon wedges - 2 (for garnish)

Steps

  1. Begin by flattening the chicken breasts to an even thickness using a meat mallet or rolling pin, then season both sides with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  2. Set up a breading station: Place the all-purpose flour in one shallow dish, the beaten egg in another, and the panko breadcrumbs in a third dish.
  3. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, shaking off the excess, then dip into the beaten egg, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
  4. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until hot. Carefully add the breaded chicken breasts and fry for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Once cooked, remove the chicken from the skillet and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  6. Slice the chicken katsu into strips and serve with katsu sauce drizzled on top or on the side for dipping. Add shredded cabbage and lemon wedges for garnish.
