Ingredients
- Chicken breast - 2 pieces (about 300g)
- Buttermilk - 1 cup (240ml)
- All-purpose flour - 1 cup (120g)
- Cornstarch - 1/4 cup (30g)
- Paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
- Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Egg - 1 large
- Vegetable oil - for frying
- Waffle mix - 1 cup (120g)
- Water - 3/4 cup (180ml)
- Maple syrup - for serving
- Butter - for serving
Steps
- Marinate the chicken breasts in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
- In a shallow bowl, mix the flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Remove the chicken from the buttermilk and let excess drip off. Dredge the chicken in the flour mixture, ensuring it is well coated.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Once hot, fry the chicken for about 6-7 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
- In a separate bowl, prepare the waffle mix by combining the waffle mix with water and the egg. Stir until just combined.
- Preheat a waffle iron and lightly grease it. Pour the batter into the preheated waffle iron and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions until golden brown.
- To serve, place a waffle on each plate, top with fried chicken, and drizzle with maple syrup. Add a pat of butter on top for extra richness.
