Ingredients

  • Halal brisket - 500 grams
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Yellow onion - 1 medium, diced
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Beef broth - 250 ml
  • Corn tortillas - 4 small
  • Fresh cilantro - 1/4 cup, chopped
  • Lime - 1, cut into wedges
  • Avocado - 1 small, sliced
  • Sour cream - 4 tablespoons

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 150°C (300°F).
  2. In a large, oven-safe pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic, smoked paprika, chili powder, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper to the pot. Stir and cook for an additional 2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Season the brisket with salt and pepper on both sides, then place it in the pot, searing it for 5 minutes on each side until browned.
  5. Pour in the beef broth, cover the pot, and transfer it to the preheated oven. Cook for about 2 hours, or until the brisket is tender and easily shredded with a fork.
  6. Once cooked, remove the pot from the oven and let the brisket rest for 10 minutes. Shred the brisket using two forks.
  7. While the brisket is resting, warm the corn tortillas in a skillet over low heat for about 30 seconds on each side.
  8. To assemble the tacos, place a generous amount of shredded brisket on each tortilla, top with chopped cilantro, slices of avocado, and a dollop of sour cream. Serve with lime wedges on the side.
