Ingredients
- All-purpose flour - 1 1/2 cups
- Baking powder - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Unsalted butter - 1/4 cup (cold, cubed)
- Milk - 2/3 cup
- Halal sausage (ground) - 200 grams
- Onion - 1 small (finely chopped)
- Garlic - 2 cloves (minced)
- Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
- Red pepper flakes - 1/4 teaspoon (optional)
- Chicken or vegetable broth - 1 cup
- Heavy cream - 1/2 cup
- Parsley - for garnish (optional)
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F).
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt together.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour in the milk and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it 3-4 times until it comes together. Pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
- Cut out biscuits using a round cutter or glass, and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- While the biscuits are baking, prepare the gravy. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the halal sausage until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté until the onion is translucent.
- Stir in the black pepper and red pepper flakes (if using), then sprinkle in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in the broth, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens.
- Lower the heat and stir in the heavy cream. Let the gravy simmer for 5 minutes, adjusting seasoning if needed.
- Serve the biscuits warm, topped generously with the sausage gravy and garnished with parsley if desired.
