Steps

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 20 minutes.
  2. In a medium pot, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic to the pot and cook for an additional minute, stirring frequently.
