- Portobello mushrooms - 2 large
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- BBQ sauce - 4 tablespoons
- Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
- Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Whole grain burger buns - 2
- Lettuce leaves - 2
- Tomato - 1 medium, sliced
- Avocado - 1 medium, sliced
- Red onion - 1/4 medium, thinly sliced
Steps
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
- In a small bowl, mix the olive oil, BBQ sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Clean the portobello mushrooms and remove the stems. Brush the marinade generously over both sides of each mushroom.
- Place the portobello mushrooms on the grill and cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until they are tender and have nice grill marks.
- While the mushrooms are grilling, toast the burger buns on the grill for about 1-2 minutes, cut side down, until golden brown.
- Assemble the burgers by placing a grilled portobello on each bun, topped with lettuce, tomato slices, avocado, and red onion.
- Serve immediately with extra BBQ sauce on the side, if desired.
