Ingredients
- All-purpose flour - 200 grams
- Warm water - 120 ml
- Active dry yeast - 5 grams
- Sugar - 5 grams
- Salt - 4 grams
- Olive oil - 15 ml
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Fresh parsley - 5 grams, chopped
- Grated Parmesan cheese - 20 grams (optional)
- Additional olive oil for brushing - 10 ml
Steps
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Mix until a dough forms, then knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and tie into a knot.
- Place the knots on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, mix minced garlic, chopped parsley, and additional olive oil. Brush this mixture over the knots.
- If using, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the knots.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
