Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 200 grams
  • Warm water - 120 ml
  • Active dry yeast - 5 grams
  • Sugar - 5 grams
  • Salt - 4 grams
  • Olive oil - 15 ml
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Fresh parsley - 5 grams, chopped
  • Grated Parmesan cheese - 20 grams (optional)
  • Additional olive oil for brushing - 10 ml

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix until a dough forms, then knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  6. Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and tie into a knot.
  7. Place the knots on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. In a small bowl, mix minced garlic, chopped parsley, and additional olive oil. Brush this mixture over the knots.
  9. If using, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the knots.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
