Ingredients

  • Ground elk meat - 500 grams
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Dried thyme - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Avocado oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Romaine lettuce leaves - 4 large
  • Tomato - 1 medium, sliced
  • Red onion - 1/2 medium, sliced
  • Pickles - 4 slices
  • Mustard - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground elk meat, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Mix until evenly incorporated.
  2. Form the mixture into two equal-sized patties, about 2.5 cm thick.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the avocado oil.
  4. Once the oil is hot, place the patties in the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 70°C.
  5. While the burgers are cooking, prepare the toppings: wash and dry the romaine lettuce leaves, slice the tomato and red onion, and set aside the pickles.
  6. Once cooked, remove the patties from the skillet and let them rest for a couple of minutes.
  7. To assemble the burgers, place one patty on each lettuce leaf, top with tomato slices, red onion, pickles, and a dollop of mustard.
  8. Wrap the lettuce around the fillings and enjoy your Paleo elk burgers.
