Steps

  1. Wash the cucumbers thoroughly and slice them into spears or rounds, based on your preference.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine water, white vinegar, kosher salt, and granulated sugar. Heat over medium until the salt and sugar dissolve completely, then remove from heat.
  3. Add the smashed garlic, dill sprigs, black peppercorns, mustard seeds, and red pepper flakes into the warm brine.
