Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 400 grams
  • Soy sauce - 60 ml
  • Maple syrup - 30 ml
  • Apple cider vinegar - 15 ml
  • Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cornstarch - 40 grams
  • Olive oil - 30 ml
  • BBQ sauce - 120 ml
  • Fresh parsley - for garnish

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Press the tofu for 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into thin rib-like strips.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
  4. Marinate the tofu strips in the mixture for at least 15 minutes.
  5. In a separate bowl, coat the marinated tofu strips with cornstarch until evenly covered.
  6. Heat olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat and sear the cornstarch-coated tofu strips for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  7. Transfer the seared tofu to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush generously with BBQ sauce.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then flip the tofu and brush with more BBQ sauce, baking for an additional 10 minutes.
  9. Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
