Ingredients

  • Tempeh - 200 grams
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
  • Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
  • BBQ sauce - 4 tablespoons

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Slice the tempeh into 1 cm thick strips resembling ribs.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, maple syrup, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
  4. Add the tempeh strips to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Let them marinate for at least 10 minutes.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch with olive oil until a paste forms.
  6. Remove the tempeh from the marinade and coat each strip with the cornstarch mixture.
  7. Place the coated tempeh strips on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes, flip the strips, and bake for another 10 minutes until crispy.
  9. During the last 5 minutes of baking, brush the tempeh ribs with BBQ sauce.
  10. Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve with additional BBQ sauce on the side.
