Ingredients
- Large onion - 1
- All-purpose flour - 1 cup (125g)
- Cornstarch - 1/4 cup (30g)
- Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
- Paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cold water - 3/4 cup (180ml)
- Vegetable oil - for frying
Steps
- Peel the onion and slice it into 1/2-inch thick rings, separating the rings from each other.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Gradually whisk in the cold water until the batter is smooth and thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).
- Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, then carefully place it into the hot oil.
- Fry the onion rings in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy, turning them occasionally for even cooking.
- Once cooked, remove the onion rings using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
