- Onion powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Hamburger buns - 2
- Cheddar cheese (slices) - 2
- Onion (medium, sliced into rings) - 1
- All-purpose flour - 1/2 cup
- Cornstarch - 1/4 cup
- Beer (or sparkling water) - 1/2 cup
- Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
- Vegetable oil (for frying) - 1 cup
- Ketchup - to taste
- Mustard - to taste
- Pickles - to taste
- Lettuce - 2 leaves
Steps
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Form into two equal-sized patties.
- Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Cook the beef patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness. Add a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.
- While the patties are cooking, prepare the crispy onion rings. In one bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. In another bowl, pour the beer (or sparkling water).
- Dip the onion rings first in the flour mixture, then in the beer, and back into the flour mixture to coat them well.
- In a deep skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Fry the coated onion rings in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
- Toast the hamburger buns lightly on the grill or in a toaster.
- Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by the cooked patty, crispy onion rings, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.
