Ingredients
- Red lentils - 150 grams
- Water - 500 ml
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Carrot - 1 medium, grated
- Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Chickpea flour - 50 grams
- Olive oil - for frying
Steps
- Rinse the red lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a saucepan, combine the rinsed lentils and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for about 15 minutes, or until the lentils are tender and most of the water is absorbed. Let cool slightly.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked lentils, minced garlic, chopped onion, grated carrot, chopped cilantro, cumin powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until combined.
- Add the chickpea flour to the lentil mixture and mix until it holds together. If too wet, add a little more flour as needed.
- Form the mixture into small patties, about 2-3 inches in diameter.
- Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
- Fry each patty for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the patties from the pan and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve warm.
