- all-purpose flour - 100 grams
- cornstarch - 50 grams
- garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
- paprika - 1 teaspoon
- salt - 1 teaspoon
- black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- egg - 1 large
- water - 60 milliliters
- vegetable oil - for frying
- lemon - 1, sliced
- fresh parsley - for garnish
- mayonnaise - 50 grams
- lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Dijon mustard - 1 teaspoon
Steps
- Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
- In a medium bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- In another bowl, whisk together the egg and water until well combined.
- Dip each calamari ring into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then coat in the flour mixture, pressing lightly to adhere.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).
- Fry the calamari in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pan.
- Remove the fried calamari using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- To make the lemon aioli, combine mayonnaise, lemon juice, and Dijon mustard in a small bowl and mix well.
- Serve the crispy fried calamari hot, garnished with lemon slices and parsley, alongside the lemon aioli.
