  • all-purpose flour - 100 grams
  • cornstarch - 50 grams
  • garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • salt - 1 teaspoon
  • black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • egg - 1 large
  • water - 60 milliliters
  • vegetable oil - for frying
  • lemon - 1, sliced
  • fresh parsley - for garnish
  • mayonnaise - 50 grams
  • lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Dijon mustard - 1 teaspoon

Steps

  1. Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and water until well combined.
  4. Dip each calamari ring into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then coat in the flour mixture, pressing lightly to adhere.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).
  6. Fry the calamari in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pan.
  7. Remove the fried calamari using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. To make the lemon aioli, combine mayonnaise, lemon juice, and Dijon mustard in a small bowl and mix well.
  9. Serve the crispy fried calamari hot, garnished with lemon slices and parsley, alongside the lemon aioli.
