Ingredients

  • Ground sausage - 200 grams
  • Cornmeal - 100 grams
  • All-purpose flour - 50 grams
  • Baking powder - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Milk - 150 ml
  • Egg - 1 large
  • Butter - 30 grams, melted
  • Shredded cheddar cheese - 50 grams
  • Chopped green onions - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  6. Fold in the cooked sausage, shredded cheddar cheese, and chopped green onions.
  7. Grease a baking dish (about 20cm x 20cm) and pour the cornbread mixture into it, spreading evenly.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
