- Ground sausage - 200 grams
- Cornmeal - 100 grams
- All-purpose flour - 50 grams
- Baking powder - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Milk - 150 ml
- Egg - 1 large
- Butter - 30 grams, melted
- Shredded cheddar cheese - 50 grams
- Chopped green onions - 2 tablespoons
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F).
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- In a mixing bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Fold in the cooked sausage, shredded cheddar cheese, and chopped green onions.
- Grease a baking dish (about 20cm x 20cm) and pour the cornbread mixture into it, spreading evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
