Ingredients

  • water - 120 ml
  • unsalted butter - 30 g
  • granulated sugar - 10 g
  • all-purpose flour - 100 g
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • large egg - 1
  • cinnamon powder - 1 tsp
  • granulated sugar (for coating) - 50 g
  • vegetable oil (for frying) - 500 ml

Steps

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium until the butter is melted and the mixture is boiling.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the flour until a dough forms. Let it cool for a few minutes.
  3. Add the egg to the dough and mix until fully incorporated and smooth.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon and 50 g of sugar for the coating.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).
  6. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  7. Carefully pipe 10 cm long strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting the ends with scissors.
  8. Fry the churros for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  9. While still warm, roll the churros in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until well coated.
  10. Serve warm with a side of chocolate sauce for dipping.
