Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 400 grams
  • Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce - 2 peppers (finely chopped)
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
  • Apple cider vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
  • Fresh cilantro - for garnish (optional)

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a bowl, combine chopped chipotle peppers, olive oil, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper to create the marinade.
  3. Add the cubed tofu to the marinade and gently toss to coat. Allow it to marinate for at least 10 minutes.
  4. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. While it heats, sprinkle cornstarch over the marinated tofu and toss to coat evenly.
  5. Grill the tofu cubes for about 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and slightly crispy on all sides.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro if desired, alongside your favorite BBQ sides.
