Ingredients

  • Chicken breast - 300 grams
  • Greek yogurt - 120 grams
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ground cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground turmeric - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Ground coriander - 1 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Pita bread - 2 pieces
  • Tomato - 1 medium, diced
  • Cucumber - 1 medium, diced
  • Red onion - 1/2, thinly sliced
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Tahini sauce - 4 tablespoons

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine Greek yogurt, minced garlic, ground cumin, paprika, turmeric, coriander, olive oil, salt, black pepper, and lemon juice to create a marinade.
  2. Cut the chicken breast into thin strips and add them to the marinade. Mix well, cover, and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
  3. Preheat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated chicken for about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally until fully cooked and slightly charred.
  4. While the chicken is cooking, prepare the pita bread by warming it in a separate pan for 1-2 minutes on each side or in the oven.
  5. Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the heat and let it rest for a couple of minutes before slicing it into bite-sized pieces.
  6. To assemble, place the warm pita bread on a plate, add the sliced chicken, and top with diced tomato, cucumber, red onion, and fresh parsley.
  7. Drizzle tahini sauce over the top, then fold the pita and enjoy your homemade Chicken Shawarma!
