Ingredients
- Chicken breast - 300 grams
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 1/2 cup
- Egg - 1 large, beaten
- Panko breadcrumbs - 1 cup
- Vegetable oil - 1/2 cup (for frying)
- Tonakatsu sauce - 4 tablespoons
- Cooked white rice - 1 cup (for serving)
- Shredded cabbage - 1 cup (for garnish)
Steps
- Start by preparing the chicken breast: pound it to an even thickness of about 1/2 inch for uniform cooking.
- Season both sides of the chicken with salt and black pepper.
- Set up a breading station: place the flour in one shallow dish, the beaten egg in another, and the panko breadcrumbs in a third dish.
- Dredge each piece of chicken in the flour, shaking off any excess, then dip it into the beaten egg, and finally coat it with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Carefully add the breaded chicken to the skillet and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 75°C).
- Once cooked, transfer the chicken to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Slice the chicken into strips and serve with tonkatsu sauce drizzled on top, alongside a serving of cooked white rice and garnished with shredded cabbage.
