Ingredients

  • Chicken breast - 300 grams
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • All-purpose flour - 1/2 cup
  • Egg - 1 large, beaten
  • Panko breadcrumbs - 1 cup
  • Vegetable oil - 1/2 cup (for frying)
  • Tonakatsu sauce - 4 tablespoons
  • Cooked white rice - 1 cup (for serving)
  • Shredded cabbage - 1 cup (for garnish)

Steps

  1. Start by preparing the chicken breast: pound it to an even thickness of about 1/2 inch for uniform cooking.
  2. Season both sides of the chicken with salt and black pepper.
  3. Set up a breading station: place the flour in one shallow dish, the beaten egg in another, and the panko breadcrumbs in a third dish.
  4. Dredge each piece of chicken in the flour, shaking off any excess, then dip it into the beaten egg, and finally coat it with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
  5. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  6. Carefully add the breaded chicken to the skillet and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 75°C).
  7. Once cooked, transfer the chicken to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  8. Slice the chicken into strips and serve with tonkatsu sauce drizzled on top, alongside a serving of cooked white rice and garnished with shredded cabbage.
