Ingredients
- Beef round steak - 300 grams
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 1 cup
- Egg - 1 large
- Milk - 1/2 cup
- Vegetable oil - 1 cup (for frying)
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Paprika - 1/2 teaspoon
- Chicken broth - 1 cup
- Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- 1. Begin by tenderizing the beef round steak using a meat mallet until about 1/2 inch thick.
- 2. Season both sides of the steak with salt and black pepper.
- 3. In one bowl, place the all-purpose flour mixed with garlic powder and paprika.
- 4. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk.
- 5. Dredge each steak first in the flour mixture, then dip in the egg mixture, and finally coat again in the flour mixture for extra crunch.
- 6. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
- 7. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the coated steaks and fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- 8. Remove the steaks from the skillet and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- 9. In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium, add butter, and allow it to melt.
- 10. Stir in the remaining flour mixture, cooking for about 1 minute to create a roux.
- 11. Gradually whisk in the chicken broth, cooking until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
- 12. For a thicker gravy, dissolve cornstarch in a little water and stir it in, cooking for an additional minute.
- 13. Serve the crispy chicken fried steak topped with the homemade gravy.
