Ingredients
- All-purpose flour - 150 grams
- Unsalted butter - 75 grams, chilled and cubed
- Granulated sugar - 30 grams
- Cold water - 30 milliliters
- Medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) - 2, peeled and sliced
- Brown sugar - 50 grams
- Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Heavy cream - 50 milliliters
- Salt - a pinch
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, chilled butter, and granulated sugar. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the cold water gradually and mix until the dough comes together. Form it into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to fit a small tart pan (approximately 20 cm in diameter). Press the dough into the pan and trim any excess.
- In a separate bowl, mix the sliced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Arrange the apple mixture evenly in the tart shell.
- Bake the tart in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
- While the tart is baking, prepare the caramel sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the heavy cream and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the mixture thickens slightly, about 5 minutes.
- Once the tart is done baking, remove it from the oven and drizzle the warm caramel sauce over the top. Allow the tart to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
