Ingredients

  • Shrimp (peeled and deveined) - 250 grams
  • Buttermilk - 120 ml
  • All-purpose flour - 100 grams
  • Cornmeal - 50 grams
  • Cajun seasoning - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil (for frying) - 500 ml

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the buttermilk, Cajun seasoning, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Add the shrimp and let them marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, mix the all-purpose flour and cornmeal together.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).
  4. Remove the shrimp from the marinade and allow excess buttermilk to drip off. Dredge the shrimp in the flour and cornmeal mixture until well coated.
  5. Carefully place the coated shrimp in the hot oil, cooking in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Using a slotted spoon, remove the shrimp from the oil and drain on paper towels. Season with additional Cajun seasoning if desired.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
