Ingredients

  • Brisket - 500 grams
  • Yellow onion - 1 medium, sliced
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Beef broth - 240 ml
  • Brown sugar - 2 tablespoons
  • Paprika - 1 tablespoon
  • Ground black pepper - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Rye bread - 4 slices
  • Dijon mustard - 2 tablespoons
  • Kosher dill pickles - 4 slices

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 150°C (300°F).
  2. In a large oven-safe pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Rub the brisket with paprika, black pepper, salt, and brown sugar, ensuring it’s evenly coated.
  5. Place the brisket in the pot, searing it on both sides for about 4 minutes per side until browned.
  6. Pour the beef broth into the pot, cover it with a lid, and transfer to the preheated oven.
  7. Cook for about 2.5 hours, or until the brisket is tender and easily shredded with a fork.
  8. Once cooked, remove the brisket from the pot and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.
  9. To assemble the sandwiches, spread Dijon mustard on two slices of rye bread, layer with sliced brisket and top with dill pickles. Add the remaining slices of bread on top to complete the sandwiches.
  10. Serve immediately and enjoy your Kosher Brisket Sandwich!
