Ingredients

  • Fresh blackberries - 250 grams
  • Granulated sugar - 100 grams
  • Water - 60 ml
  • All-purpose flour - 150 grams
  • Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Milk - 100 ml
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Vanilla extract - 1/2 teaspoon

Steps

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the blackberries, 50 grams of sugar, and water. Cook over medium heat until the blackberries release their juices and the mixture begins to bubble, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and remaining 50 grams of sugar.
  3. In another bowl, mix the milk, vegetable oil, cinnamon, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined to form a thick batter.
  5. Once the blackberry mixture is bubbling, drop spoonfuls of the batter over the top of the berries. Cover the saucepan with a lid and reduce the heat to low.
  6. Let the dumplings steam for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are puffed up and cooked through.
  7. Serve warm, spooning the blackberry sauce over the dumplings.
