Ingredients

  • Ground bison - 500 grams
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Whole wheat burger buns - 2
  • Lettuce - 2 leaves
  • Tomato - 1 medium, sliced
  • Red onion - 1/2 small, sliced
  • Avocado - 1/2, sliced

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground bison, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties, about 1.5 cm thick.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the bison patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.
  4. While the patties are cooking, prepare the burger buns by toasting them lightly on a separate skillet or in the oven.
  5. Assemble the burgers by placing a bison patty on each toasted bun, then topping with lettuce, tomato slices, red onion, and avocado.
  6. Serve with your choice of side, such as sweet potato fries or a fresh salad.
