Ingredients
- Beef stew meat - 300 grams
- Carrots - 1 medium, diced
- Celery - 1 stalk, diced
- Onion - 1 small, chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Beef broth - 250 ml
- Frozen peas - 100 grams
- Worcestershire sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Dried thyme - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- All-purpose flour - 2 tablespoons
- Pie crust - 1 (store-bought or homemade)
- Egg - 1, beaten (for egg wash)
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrots, and celery, cooking until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and beef stew meat to the skillet, browning the beef on all sides for about 5-6 minutes.
- Sprinkle the flour over the beef and vegetables, stirring to combine and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Pour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Stir well, bringing the mixture to a simmer. Cook for 10-15 minutes until the beef is tender and the sauce thickens.
- Stir in the frozen peas and remove from heat. Let the filling cool slightly.
- Roll out the pie crust on a floured surface, then place it over a pie dish. Trim excess crust, leaving a bit overhang.
- Pour the beef filling into the pie crust, then cover with another layer of pie crust. Seal the edges and make a few slits on top for steam to escape.
- Brush the top crust with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
