Ingredients

  • Beef stew meat - 300 grams
  • Carrots - 1 medium, diced
  • Celery - 1 stalk, diced
  • Onion - 1 small, chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Beef broth - 250 ml
  • Frozen peas - 100 grams
  • Worcestershire sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Dried thyme - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • All-purpose flour - 2 tablespoons
  • Pie crust - 1 (store-bought or homemade)
  • Egg - 1, beaten (for egg wash)

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrots, and celery, cooking until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add minced garlic and beef stew meat to the skillet, browning the beef on all sides for about 5-6 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle the flour over the beef and vegetables, stirring to combine and cook for another 2 minutes.
  5. Pour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Stir well, bringing the mixture to a simmer. Cook for 10-15 minutes until the beef is tender and the sauce thickens.
  6. Stir in the frozen peas and remove from heat. Let the filling cool slightly.
  7. Roll out the pie crust on a floured surface, then place it over a pie dish. Trim excess crust, leaving a bit overhang.
  8. Pour the beef filling into the pie crust, then cover with another layer of pie crust. Seal the edges and make a few slits on top for steam to escape.
  9. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
