Ingredients

  • Ground beef - 250 grams
  • Potatoes - 2 medium (approximately 300 grams)
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 1 clove, minced
  • Carrot - 1 small, diced
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Dried thyme - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Beef broth - 100 ml
  • Worcestershire sauce - 1 teaspoon
  • Puff pastry - 1 sheet (about 250 grams)
  • Egg - 1, beaten (for egg wash)

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Peel and dice the potatoes, then boil them in salted water for about 15 minutes until fork-tender. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until translucent.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in the diced carrot, salt, black pepper, paprika, and thyme. Cook for another 3-4 minutes.
  6. Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring to combine. Let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat.
  7. In a large bowl, combine the cooked potatoes with the beef mixture, mashing lightly to mix.
  8. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into two circles that are slightly larger than your pie dishes.
  9. Place the beef and potato mixture into each pie dish and cover with a pastry circle, sealing the edges by crimping with a fork.
  10. Brush the tops with the beaten egg to achieve a golden color while baking.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
  12. Let the pies cool for a few minutes before serving.
